On-the-go with Earth's Best

Need some quick toddler snack ideas? Earth's Best has their Happy Snax Whole Grain Cereal Snacks for your munchkins (and you!)! They have a smiley face shape that makes it fun for little ones, and you'll be smiling knowing they are getting 12 grams of whole grains, 2 grams of protein, 2 grams of fiber per serving and 25% of the Daily Value of Vitamin C.

9-20-12

Making your kids happy with a healthy snack is awesome, but what about mom and dad? These are delicious snacks for them too! (Seriously... they are very yummy!) The Happy Snax are made with organic ingredients, meaning they are grown without any potentially harmful pesticides or herbicides. They are also specially formulated with an excellent source of iron, zinc, and six B Vitamins. Earth's Best Happy Snax, like all the other Earth's Best products, do not contain any artificial flavours, colours, preservatives, nor do they have any genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

With two delicious flavours, Graham and Apple Cinnamon, you can have a yummy snack for all palates. The Graham flavour is a simple, delicious, snack that tastes just like a graham cracker. The Apple Cinnamon had a surprisingly strong apple taste it had in such a little nibble of a snack!

These snacks make great snacks for car rides or just to grab on your way out the door to one of the many sporting events at your child's school. They come in resealable canisters that hold 2.6 oz, so they are a great travel size! Just grab the container, slip into the pocket of a diaper bag (or other similar bag), and go!

Look for Earth's Best Happy Snax at a grocer near you that carries Earth’s Best products, or you can use the Earth’s Best Store Locator to find a location near you! You can also order them online at the Earth’s Best Store, from Amazon.com, any other online retailers where you can buy Earth’s Best products!

Earth's Best to the rescue!

Many times I find myself hungry while we are going somewhere. This happens to adults a lot (especially us very pregnant adults!), and undoubtedly happens to our munchkins too. If you're like me, you aren't going to buy them fast food (or you reeeeeeeeeeally don't want to!), but you want them to be able to eat something until you get to your destination. Enter Earth’s Best!  They have you covered with their Sunny Days Snack Bars that don’t have any of that bad stuff (artificial flavours, colourings, preservatives, high-fructose corn syrup), but have plenty of good stuff like vitamins, organic ingredients, and a wholesome cereal crust.
I’m sure many of us have tried something similar to these snack bars… a cereal crust and a fruit-filled center. These snacks, part of the Sesame Street Healthy Habits for Life snacks, are the perfect snack for a lunch box, for on the road, or just for a little treat at home! With delicious flavours like Apple and Strawberry to pick from, you can be assured that your child will get the deliciousness of real fruits in this snack without having to worry about washing the fruit off, having it spoil, or being out of season! Each box has 8 yummy, individually wrapped bars, so you have plenty for snacks throughout the week, and even one to sneak for yourself!
Bobble is a huge fan of these cereal bars now. (He didn't used to be because he had an issue with a "sticky" center.) I keep a couple of each flavour in our diaper bag or car, and we have some on hand at home for those times when he just can't wait to eat what is being cooked and needs something now! Any little one that likes either of those flavours (and isn’t opposed to ‘sticky’ fillings!) will love these yummy little bars! Best of all, they are the perfect size for little ones to enjoy! The only thing that could make these better is if they had more flavours (like blueberry... yum!).
You can find Sunny Days Snack Bars, along with many other Earth’s Best products, online at the Earth’s Best Store, from Amazon.com, many other online retailers, or you can use the Earth’s Best Store Locator to find a retailer near you!

Earth's Best Chlorine Free Wipes (Review)

The following review was written by a guest-blogger, Deanne.

We usually buy a popular name-brand baby wipe, that is perfume-free for Eli. He has sensitive skin, so we try to avoid things like perfume and dyes that could irritate him. I’ve been happy with my wipe. It didn’t smell weird, it was nice and thick, it got the job done with just one or two wipes. That was BEFORE I tried the Earth’s Best ChlorineFree Baby Wipes though!

The website says that these wipes are “chlorine free and alcohol free” which is great for Eli’s sensitive skin. They are also free of perfumes. After pulling a wipe out of the pop-up box, I immediately noticed how soft and thick they were. They were plenty wet enough, too, where my previous favorite wipe tended to be a little dry until you got to the bottom of the container. The Earth’s Best wipes also contain an aloe vera and vitamin E formula to help protect baby’s skin. It makes the wipes feel “lotiony”, which I loved.

These wipes clean so well, I consistently only had to use one wipe for dirty diaper clean-up! This means that even though the wipes are a little more expensive than other brands, it is more acceptable, since you end up using less of them per diaper change. They also worked great for washing faces and hands, and since there is no alcohol in them, they won’t cause chapped cheeks! Overall, I absolutely loved these wipes and can’t think of anything bad to say about them.

Earth's Best Disposable Diapers

The following review was written by a guest-blogger, Deanne.
After reading the package of the Earth’s Bestdisposable diapers and looking at the Earth’s Best website, I was pretty excited to try the diapers out on my baby.

While I most often use cloth on my son, we do sometimes use disposables while we are going to be out of the house or for the church nursery on Sundays. Most of the diapers we have tried, either give Eli a rash, or they just don’t absorb enough pee! The Earth’s Best website says that their diapers are “chlorine-free, are made with fewer petro-chemicals, are latex and dye-free and contain natural materials such as wheat and corn”. So that, along with the suggested retail price, made me think that these must be WAY better than the diapers we have been using.

With much anticipation, I opened the package of diapers and pulled one out. I was immediately a little disappointed. It looked just like the “cheapie” store-brand diapers you can get at Wal-mart or Target. I pulled the diaper open and sniffed it. It smelled just like a “cheapie” diaper too! You know that smell…kind of like formaldehyde? Now, I don’t know if there is actually formaldehyde in these diapers or even other brands, all I know is that “cheapie” diapers have that smell. I decided to try them out on Eli anyway.

I put the diaper on, and since I have a somewhat skinny baby, I tried to overlap the tabs. They would NOT stick at all! The side panels of the diaper are nice and stretchy though, so I just didn’t pull them as tight and stuck the tabs down on the “strip” on the diaper instead. They stuck, but not as tight as some other brands I have used. It still fit well enough on my skinny babe, and there were no gaps around his legs. I would say that these diapers fit true to the weight range on the package. Eli is about 16lbs and I used a size 3 diaper on him, which says it fits from 16-28lbs.

A few hours later, before Eli’s nap, I changed him and was pleasantly surprised that he wasn’t sopping wet! Normally, if I leave him in a disposable diaper for more than an hour, the diaper is either bulging with pee, or his clothes are already wet. After a few more changes throughout the day, the Earth’s Best diapers continued to prove themselves to be super absorbent. During the week that we used them, we only had 2 leaks, both of which were caused by Eli drinking a huge amount of liquids. He also did not break out in any rashes during our trial run!

So in conclusion, this is my list of pros and cons for Earth’s Best Chlorine Free diapers:
Pros:
  • No chlorine
  • Fewer petro-chemicals
  • Dye and Perfume-Free
  • Super absorbent
  • Didn’t cause a rash
Cons:
  • Tabs do not overlap for skinny babies
  • Looks cheap
  • Smells cheap
  • Has a high price-tag

I would not personally buy these diapers again, as they are just out of my price-range. But, if you are very concerned about chlorine, dye and perfume, and you aren’t concerned about price, these might be a good buy for you!

Earth's Best Jar & Pouch Giveaway!

Love Earth's Best products? Well, here's your chance to win 3 jars and 3 pouches of their delicious, nutritious food! Not sure if you like jars or pouches better? Here's your chance to find out!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Earth's Best Foods: Jars vs. Pouches

Lately, baby purees in pouches have become quite the thing. You see pouches of all sorts everywhere. Earth's Best, however, offers their delicious, organic foods in both glass jars and pouches. Both have their ups and downs, and many people have their reasons for liking one over the other. Personally, I prefer squeeze pouches because Bobble is at the point where I can just hand him one (opened) and he drinks them.

We did Baby-led weaning with Bobble, so we never really had a need for purees unless we were traveling, so we pretty much only wanted the squeeze pouches. I have found, especially over the last winter, that the jarred fruits that Earth's Best have are fantastic for adding to greek yogurt for a healthy snack for my munchkin. Especially when fresh fruits are way too pricy to purchase like in December in colder states!

I did have a mind blank the first time I attempted to mix the yogurt with fruit (I believe I mixed it with the Earth's Best Apples & Blueberries) and I mixed the entire jar with an entire greek yogurt individual sized container. There's a reason that they have fruit "on the bottom" and not half and half. Just saying. Not my proudest moment!

A benefit to using the glass jars over the squeeze pouches is they can be reused for multiple things. Crafts and storage, especially! If you have a crafty person in your house (maybe they have lots of beads?), they can definitely put these empty jars to use!

Earth's Best has great options for your child for whatever your preference is for feeding, and whatever stage they are at. They have over 90 jar varieties and 35 pouches! Check out their First Foods, Second Foods, or Third Foods for jar options, or click here to check out their puree pouches in any of the above mentioned stages. Don't forget to check out their toddler food and kid food, too! (By the way, the toddler/kid food is totally delicious and not limited to just them eating it! I eat the oatmeal all the time!)

What sort of food do you prefer to feed your little one? Do you like jars or pouches better? Maybe you utilize both depending on the occasion? I'd like to hear about it!

Enter for your chance to win a pack of 3 pouches & 3 jars from Earth's Best and see what you like best!

The NEW and IMPROVED Earth's Best Oatmeal!

A while back, I posted a review about Earth's Best Organic Yummy Tummy Oatmeal. Bobble loved it, and I was known to eat a bite here or there myself! I loved that it contained no artificial flavours, colours, or preservatives in them, and each serving contains 30 grams of whole grain... but that number is off now.

Earth's Best has improved their already awesome Yummy Tummy Instant Oatmeal to now contain 31g of whole grains, and has been reformulated with 25% more fiber and 25% less sugar than before! How fantastic is that?!

Check out my review (above), and look for both Maple & Brown Sugar or Apples & Cinnamon flavours at your favorite Earth's Best Retailer!

Disclosure: I receive sample(s) for the purpose of testing and review, but this did not sway my opinion on the products. These opinions are my own and may differ from those of your own.

Finicky Eater Tips From Earth's Best

Fruits and veggies are a very important part of your little one's diet. Wait, your little one is a bit finicky with fruits and veggies? Earth's Best put an educational video on their YouTube Page on starting your little one on fruits/veggies.

A few tips from Earth's Best:

Parents who eat more fruits and vegetables often have kids who
a) are less picky
and
b)consume more fruits and vegetables.

Don't pressure kids to eat. Studies show that parents who pressure their kids to eat actually get kids with higher levels of pickiness and kids who eat significantly fewer servings of fruits and vegetables.

Earth's Best NEW Sleepytime Lotion

Many parents have a routine for bedtime and/or naptime with their little ones. Some do a light baby massage with lotion just before bed to help soothe/calm their child, while some parents do this right after bath time. We never got into a routine that involved massage when Bobble was little, but we have started a little lotion massage lately after receiving the NEW Sleepytime Lotion (Chamomile) from Earth's Best.

The Chamomile Sleepytime Lotion is lightly scented with chamomile to help with calming your child, and it's a very pleasant scent too. I've got a very sensitive... well, everything! Needless to say, I have trouble with scented items that aren't naturally scented or if they are overpowering. This lotion has the perfect amount of fragrance that even my nose enjoys it!

The lotion is made with oats to help nourish dry skin, and also has:
  • Contains 70% Organic Content
  • Hypo-Allergenic
  • No Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate or Sodium Myreth Sulfate
  • No Mineral Oil or Petrolatum
  • No Parabens or Harsh Preservatives
  • No Synthetic Fragrances, Colors or Phthalates
  • 100% Vegetarian, No Animal Testing

Hard not to be happy about that! Bobble has been asking for this lotion, too. He enjoys the quiet time we spend together rubbing the lotion on him, and it does seem to help him quiet down in the evening (which can really be a challenge!).

If you are interested in purchasing this new Sleepytime Lotion from Earth's Best, you can look for it locally using the store locator on the Earth's Best page. You can also order it directly from the Earth's Best online store for $11.79 for a 16 oz. bottle.

Earth's Best NEW Yogurt Puffs Giveaway!

Are you excited to try out this new Earth's Best product? You should be... they are delicious! Good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Earth's Best Yogurt Puffs

If you're like me, you try to find healthy snacks for your little ones to munch on. I don't like Bobble having junk food, and even when he does have "junk food", it's still a healthier version of it. (Like cake would either be made from scratch by me, or I'd buy the organic box mix of stuff.)

It's not always easy to find snacks that you approve of and your kids enjoy, but with Earth's Best at hand, you're sure to find something your kids will like and you will approve of.

Earth's Best just released their newest snack..... Earth's Best Organic Yogurt Puffs! We've had "puffs" in this house before, and I knew Bobble enjoyed them. Yogurt Puffs, however, are different. They are cereal puffs that have yogurt. Bobble loves yogurt. I hate yogurt. I love that it's good for you, but man do I ever hate that taste! Of course, wanting to accurately review the product, I tried them out. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the taste!

We were sent both Peach and Blueberry flavours to try out, and Bobble started devouring both. They smelled so good that I had to try them whether I had decided to initially or not. They really were good! They were also not very sweet, and I really liked the fact they were flavourful without a bunch of sugar. (Less than 1g sugar per serving!)

So what's not to love about these puffs? Maybe the fact they aren't never-ending containers, but that's about it! They have 6 B vitamins, Vitamins A & E, Zinc, Iron, Calcium, have no artificial colours, flavours, or preservatives... oh yeah, and they're ORGANIC. Even the packaging is an awesome non-BPA packaging.

I'll admit, I kept snacking on them after tasting them initially. Bobble actually pulled them away from me! These are definitely a great snack to have on hand, so keep an eye out for them at the store! You can also enter to win one HERE!

Can't Stay Healthy

*** Fair warning, this entry mentions bodily functions! ***

This must be one rotten year for bugs, because we can't stay healthy for anything! It's been one thing after another for MONTHS now.... with the occasional healthy week or two thrown in. Right now sees Bobble with the runs (although it's not every hour anymore, it's a couple of times a day... but still massive and looking like EBF poo!), and me with what I suspect to be rotovirus.

I thought it was just pregnancy-related, yesterday. I felt blah at work, but felt GREAT after a visit to the bathroom to expel any and all food I had eaten. Seriously, I felt 100%. That meant morning sickness, right? Well, lunch came and went, and I ate and saw that 30 minutes later, if that.

My boss suggested I go home, and I insisted I was fine. He said I wasn't being too productive if I couldn't stay at my desk long enough to work, and so I finally gave in and went home.

I've never been so thankful for something in my life.

I got home and it just went progressively down hill. I started vomiting up water. Then, when I gave up on drinks at all, bile. Uh, gross? So I started thinking this was a bug.... but that was made obvious when I ended up with it coming out both ends.

I was up every 30 minutes to an hour last night to make bathroom trips. Today has been much better, though I still ache all over. I have had two or three nibbles of toast, a couple bites of organic, plain applesauce, and held down a bottle and a 1/3 of water. That's massive improvement. My midwife suggested the "BRAT" diet... bananas, rice, apples, and toast. She said those were the easiest to digest. I figured the organic applesauce would work just fine, especially since it was already mushy! Glad I still had some Earth's Best applesauce on hand from my last review!

I am just more concerned about Squiggle than anything.... how would this illness treat my baby inside of me? Perhaps I was mostly concerned after I started having painful cramps in my stomach (actual stomach, not abdomen)... I just started worrying that something would happen to Squiggle.

Squiggle's been through a lot... a lot more than Bobble ever had. Bobble saw one cold while I carried him, and that was it. Squiggle, however, was conceived while I had a cold, has seen the flu, hand-foot-mouth, a cold, and now this. Apparently, HFM is somewhat of a concern if contracted during pregnancy.... like chickenpox would be, only nowhere near as severe. That makes me a little bit paranoid. I hope everything is okay. I hope I get well enough to drink plenty of fluids and be able to move without pain (all my joints hurt)..... and I definitely hope that Bobble avoids this. Perhaps he had a more mild version of this and that's why he didn't vomit a bunch. I'll take it.... at least mom knows how to make it to a toilet or a bucket, right?

What did you do when you were sick while pregnant, while caring for a toddler, or both? Any tips?

Earth's Best Jarred Foods (food safety)

Being a big fan of baby-led weaning, I admittedly had limited knowledge on jarred baby foods. As you might know from previous posts, I have had experience with some food pouches (especially as of late!), but I've never gone out and purchased a jar of baby food for Bobble. Never.

Photobucket

Earth's Best recently sent me a couple jars of baby food (they have LOTS of flavours of jarred foods!), and, admittedly, I stared at them with no idea what to do. I didn't really want to spoon feed them to my toddler (nor did I think he'd be a fan of that idea), but I still wanted to use them. One of the jars, Apple & Blueberry puree, sounded like a winner. Then I realized something! I could mix the jarred fruit purees in with some greek yogurt for Bobble! He loves yogurt! Still, I wanted to see if he liked the flavour of the food first, so I popped open the jar (took a taste myself -- yum!) and grabbed a spoon.

Bobble was watching a show since I had been switching over the laundry, so he was preoccupied when I went in there. I got a spoonful and tried to get it in his mouth. He kept turning his head, but finally took a small taste since I told him he could keep watching his show if he tasted it. He loved it. I let him have a little bit more, but didn't realize I was actually doing something that wasn't exactly 'safe'.

Like I said before, I never had purchased baby food JARS, and it never dawned on me that there would be rules for how to use them. Sure, I knew you shouldn't let them sit out after opening, and I figured you should throw them out if not used within a couple of days of opening.... but some of it I just never thought of.... like washing the jar and lid of the container before opening it. Sure, thinking back, that makes sense. Who knows what could have touched it when stocking the shelves! Also, it's recommended that you spoon food into a bowl instead of feeding directly from the jar. Another thing I completely didn't do. Oops.

Check out Earth's Best's post on Keeping Baby Food Safe to make sure you're keeping your little one's food safe!

As far as the debate over jarred food or pouches of food, I think I've learned that there is a place for jarred food in our household. For the most part, pouches are best for us since we usually just keep them on hand for on-the-go situations. I really like the idea of having the jars (of fruit) on hand to mix into yogurt, though. You could also use those for adding to cakes, muffins, breads, etc., and have more flavour and moisture! (Not to mention more vitamins!!!)

Were you aware of the ways to keep jarred food safe?

Disclosure: The product mentioned above was provided to me by Earth’s Best for review. This did not influence my opinion of the product in any way. My opinions are my own and may differ from those of your own.
