Teething Bling Teething Jewelry (review)

We've all seen it: the baby chewing on whatever they can. Doesn't matter where they are, doesn't matter what it is. THEY. MUST. CHEW. This can be adorable (aww, fingers! yummy!), or disgusting (ewww, that is a shopping cart handle!)... or just plain frustrating (mommy's necklace... it might break!).

Then again, that last one doesn't really apply if it's Teething Bling. Teething Bling jewelry was made for baby to chew on. Consisting of safety-tested nylon string and a commonly-used, medical-grade, food-safe silicone pendant (or beads), Teething Bling is safe for your teething youngster to gum away on! The silicone used is the same material found in many teething toys and other baby products, too. It's not some weird new substance you've never encountered!

Teething Bling contains no harmful chemicals: no phthalates, BPAs, PVCs, lead or latex.  All their products are CPSIA compliant, carry the European CE mark for safety and are FDA approved.  Additionally, pendants also come with a breakaway clasp as an added safety feature (though you should never put the necklaces around baby).

So how much do babies really like these items? Are they really all that convenient over a teething toy? Yes and yes. Teething Bling was generous enough to send me a pendant and gemstone necklace to try out. I received Grey Gemstones and a Moonstone Donut Pendant (both pictured above). I was actually getting ready to head out to the store when I got these, so I did a quick wash on them and put on the grey gemstones necklace.

(The fact these were all taken from this outing means they were all taken with my phone and thus aren't the best quality photos.)

She was quick to grab them and knew just what they were for!
I babywear all the time, so I figured this might help keep my youngest distracted. She's been trying to eat everything, and been very grabby with my hair. Not only did she adore the necklace, but she left my hair alone the whole time! She loves grabbing a fistful of the beads in each hand and being able to gnaw on some, too. I loved that the beads didn't go around the neck because that prevented them from pulling my hair (and I have a very sensitive head).

Chewing on her Teething Bling while being worn through the grocery

So why was this better than a regular teething toy? Simple: It never ended up getting thrown on the floor. I swear I have cleaned teething toys more often than anything else! They love chewing them, but they love throwing them, too. The necklace stayed put and didn't get dirty. Yay!

She loved them so much she fell asleep chewing them and still didn't let them go!

Before our shopping trip was over, my husband was very hungry and asked me to run in to get a burrito at Chipotle. Seeing as how we fed Bobble before we left (and Squiggle is on mama's milk still), I thought it was a great idea. I ran in and waited to place an order. As I stepped up to the counter, the woman/girl on the other side of the counter raved about my necklace. She was talking about how cool it was, and asked where she could get one. I had not OWNED this necklace more than a couple hours and was already getting compliments!

This jewelry really impressed me! I am not a big jewelry person (literally, I like small stones/gems/beads etc.) so I was a bit self conscious wearing a larger bead out. (Yes, I know... silly thing to be worrying about, eh?) Being complimented so quickly really helped with that. I thought it looked nice, but I've never been one someone turns to for fashion advice. A complete stranger wanting to know where I got my necklace? Yeah, that did the trick! They have so many styles and colours that it's hard not to find something that would be perfect for your wardrobe, too!

Bobble also loves them. He likes to wear the pendant necklace and try to get Squiggle to chew on it. It's so cute! I might have to get him one of the fish pendants so he can have his own!

My husband has worn my Teething Bling, too! Granted, he didn't go out of his way to find it, but when I had to hand him Squiggle for something and I was wearing it, I would just put it around his neck so she had something to play with until I came back. He's a good sport. (He wasn't going to smile for the picture, though!) Perhaps I should have gotten him a Babe Magnet tie! (Actually, he never wears ties, so I have better odds of getting him to wear necklaces.)

  1. it takes a real man to wear teething bling :) I love that the necklace has lots of smaller pendants, I have one that is the big round pendant and my little boy loves it but I bet he would love the smaller ones more.

  2. I like the round pendants best! Looks like actual jewelry. i'm not a jewelry person, but I'd prefer this option over getting my hair pulled! They should make Teething Bling that looks like military dog tags-- my husband would wear that!

  9. My daughter has a tooth just below the surface and is desperate to chew on anything! I wish I'd had one of these today while wearing her at the mall. They're cute and functional- as a mom it doesn't get much better than that!

  10. I absolutely love the shot of her snuggled up with you and falling asleep with her teething bling! So cute! I love having something for baby to play with when I'm wearing them and when I'm nursing. This looks like it would fit the bill perfectly!

  11. I love that it looks like real jewelry and your baby looks very happy soothing on it! I have been wondering about the teething necklaces and this looks great! I have a 6 week old who will be learning to grasp objects soon.

  15. I think that has to be one of the most creative inventions since I started having kids. I just bought the teething elephant from Target and it ALWAYS ends up on the floor. I'm headed to an all natural baby store today and I may just take a look at these :) Thanks for the great review

  16. I have to give the teething necklace a try. Especially since you said it helped your little one leave your hair alone. My middle baby started grabbing my hair when she nursed, now she still tries to grab my hair every night to soothe herself to sleep. Currently she is 2 :/

    1. Teethingbling is fabulous for teething little ones. there are other necklaces geared towards little ones that are meant for distraction (to play with) and not to be put in mouths, too. Like Mommy Necklaces. *NOT* meant to be chewed on, but have a break-away clasp so baby will not break the necklace, lovely colours, and they have a great warranty. If your little one still chews on stuff a lot, definitely check out teething necklaces! these are great!

  17. Perhaps this is a silly question but I'm hoping you may be able to help me out! I love the idea of teething necklaces but I wear other jewelry quite often. Is it hard to teach baby which is okay to teeth on and which isn't? Or do you just take off your other jewelry when around baby?

    1. Not a silly question at all! I don't usually wear jewelry now that I am between jobs. When I worked, however, I wore necklaces almost daily. I would just grab my little one's hand (when they grabbed the necklace, carefully work it out of their grip, and say "no no, gentle". I think, eventually, they just learned the difference. My (non-baby geared jewelry) is all thin chains and a pendant... and usually a really tiny pendant with a stone or something. Perhaps this would be a good question to ask on the Thoughts Of Fluff Facebook page to get more views and more of a response? :)

  19. I have a bunch of these. They made such a difference for me especially around the 5 month mark when they get fidgety and need something to play with :). Can't recommend them enough!

  20. What a pretty necklace. I wish I had used one with my older son. I threw away more than one piece of jewelry because he ripped it off my neck. The safety feature on this where it just opens would be so nice with a kid that yanks them off of you!

  21. Didn't the string get all spitty and wet on your clothes? It looks like baby would love it, but I dunno about wearing it all the time....

    1. Not with the gemstones necklace shown above :) There are tiny little knots between the beads on this one, and they didn't really touch the clothes since the beads stand out so much. For the pendant necklace, the string does get gooey and went because my youngest loves the string more than the donut for that one
